Nosara, Costa Rica is a small town with a big reputation. It's known for its stunning beaches, lush jungles, and vibrant culture. But is it walkable? The answer is yes! This stretch of Costa Rica has the highest concentration of shops and restaurants, and you can easily walk to most places, including the beach. Other roads that leave the main road lead to Playa Pelada, another beach community just to the north, and to “Boca”, where the Nosara River flows into the sea.
In fact, there are a handful of trails in Nosara that are perfect for walking in the heat and humidity. You can walk to Playa Rosada, cross the biological reserve, or even find some trails in and around the city. Playa Pelada has a trail with a beautiful view of the beaches. Because of its remote location, getting around Nosara is different from moving around other areas of Costa Rica.
There's no public transportation or ridesharing in the area, and taxi service is very limited. If you have a vehicle, you can drive, but because of the unpaved dirt roads, even this can be a challenge.One of the best things to do near Nosara is to walk the dirt roads that wind through the region. It gave us the opportunity to experience some of the best things to do in Nosara and, at the same time, it gave us enough time to rest around the pool drinking piña coladas.
While Nosara has grown in popularity over the past 10 years, it still retains its charm as a small town with a sense of peaceful isolation and offers eager travelers plenty of activities.In addition, hotels, surf camps and vacation rentals in Nosara usually book well in advance. This area attracts many surfers from California and Australia and their families will be staying 1 to 4 weeks in Nosara, using it as a base of operations. Some hotels in Nosara offer on-site testing (ours does), but there's also a clinic in the city that also offers testing. Nosara is one of the most expensive beach cities in Costa Rica, so keep that in mind if you're on a tight budget.If you haven't yet visited Costa Rica, you'll be surprised to learn that almost everything is priced in USD, making things even more expensive than you might expect.
Since Nosara is a small town, at first glance it will seem that there is not much to do and you can visit everything in a few days. The best way to get around Nosara is by car, but it may not be absolutely necessary if you are staying in Guiones. If you want to take some yoga classes during your stay in Nosara, start with your hotel or resort; many offer classes and workshops on-site (ours do).If you like surfing, practicing yoga, eating delicious food, hanging out on beautiful beaches, and exploring nature, Nosara is definitely worth a visit. It's also located right next to many shops, restaurants and many of the best things to do in Nosara.
The Ostional Wildlife Refuge, located just north of Nosara, is one of the two most important nesting sites in the world for Olive Ridley sea turtles. If you're on a budget, eat at a soda (local traditional Costa Rican restaurants) or get away from the tourist areas of Playa Guiones and Playa Pelada.
